Welcome to RIACT.org
This page will help you understand what RIACT is, who it's for, how to find what you need, and how to get the most out of everything here.
At Rhode Island ACT, we hold therapy as a lifelong craft. One developed through knowledge and understanding (the Head), applied clinical skill (the Hands), and human connection and compassion (the Heart). ACT, at its best, lives at the intersection of all three.
Our mission is simple: to support clinicians in becoming confident, flexible, values-driven practitioners while helping them build meaningful and sustainable professional lives.
Whether you're here to learn, teach, connect, collaborate, or grow your practice, RIACT is here to support the clinician you are now and the one you are becoming.
What is RIACT, really?
RIACT is not a course platform. It is not a certification program. It is not a directory.
It is a living ecosystem built around one core idea: that the science of human behavior, that is Relational Frame Theory, Functional Contextualism, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, offers clinicians the most rigorous and humanly relevant framework available for understanding suffering, building flexibility, and practicing with precision and presence.
Everything here, the articles, the podcast, the Flex Labs, the tools, the community, the consultation, are organized around helping clinicians move from knowing about ACT to thinking and practicing contextually. That shift is what we call functional fluency, and it is the thread that runs through everything at RIACT.
It is not something a single workshop installs. It develops over time, through practice, feedback, and community. That is what this place is built for.
Who is RIACT for?
RIACT was built by clinicians for clinicians at every stage of development, from students just encountering ACT for the first time, to seasoned practitioners ready to go deeper into RFT and Functional Contextualism.
You are in the right place if:
- You are new to ACT and want to understand it from the ground up, not just learn its techniques
- You have been doing ACT for years and sense there is a deeper level of understanding available, one that changes how you think, not just what you do in session
- You are building a private practice and want that practice to actually reflect how you think about behavior and values
- You are tired of developing in isolation and want a community that speaks the same clinical language
- You believe that better clinicians, thinking more clearly, practicing more flexibly, are one of the most important levers for improving human wellbeing at scale
If any of that resonates, you are in the right place.
How to find what you need
RIACT is organized around five areas. Here is a quick map:
Training Structured learning opportunities including the Flex Lab (live practice sessions, not passive instruction), the Residency program for clinicians building hours and skills simultaneously, and the Training Schedule for upcoming events.
Resources A curated library organized by topic: clinical resources, practice-building resources, the Deeply Functional podcast archive, and the FPN Practice Tool for clinicians working on functional process notes and documentation.
Community The Slack community for members, peer consultation, case discussions, and a directory of clinicians in the RIACT ecosystem. Learning here is collaborative, not competitive.
Pathways If you are not sure where to start clinically, the Pathways section organizes the learning content by developmental level, from ACT basics through advanced FC and RFT application.
Membership Everything above is organized around a membership model designed to meet you where you are. More on that below.
The Deeply Functional Podcast
If you are new here, the podcast is one of the best places to start. Deeply Functional is a clinical conversation series at the intersection of RFT, Functional Contextualism, and ACT, where the theory gets applied to real cases, real clinical moments, and the real experience of practicing this way.
It is available free on Spotify, Amazon Music, and through the RIACT site. Every episode comes with support materials for members.
Flex Lab: Where ACT Becomes Behavior
Flex Lab is a structured practice space for clinicians who want to deepen skill, confidence, and flexibility using ACT, FC, and RFT. Rather than passively learning, Flex Lab allows clinicians to practice live, explore real cases, experiment with interventions, and strengthen process-based clinical decision-making.
If you want to move from learning about ACT to embodying ACT, this is where that shift happens. Flex Lab is collaborative, not evaluative. No one is here to perform. We are here to practice, refine, and grow.
Three Flex Labs run monthly, individual therapy focus, a virtual open session, and couples work. Free members receive access to three sessions. Explorer and above have full ongoing access.
Membership: Find Your Place in the Journey
RIACT membership is designed around a simple principle: where you are in your development determines what you need, not the other way around.
There are five tiers, each building on the last:
Foundation — Free The genuine starting point. Real content, real access, no credit card required. Introductory ACT articles, three Flex Lab sessions, clinical worksheets, and community updates. Start here if you are exploring.
Explorer — $12/month For clinicians who want consistent, ongoing content to build contextual fluency over time. Full access to ACT essays, applied reflections, the Deeply Functional podcast and all episode support materials. At less than a single co-pay per month, this is the easiest yes in clinical education.
Clinical — $49/month For clinicians ready to change how they practice, not just what they know. Includes the FPN Assistant (an AI-powered functional process note tool that saves time and sharpens ACT thinking), basic business support documentation, and one 45-minute 1:1 consultation every two months. This is where functional fluency starts to become behavior.
Immersive — $112/month For clinicians who are serious about developing and don't want to do it alone. Everything in Clinical, plus full Slack community access, group trainings and functional case discussions, and one full hour with an ACT Peer Reviewed Trainer every month, use it for clinical consultation or practice building, your choice.
Intensive — $212/month Maximum access. Two hours per month with a peer-reviewed ACT trainer, priority access across the ecosystem, and a hard cap of 12 members. Five spots currently remain. This is for clinicians who are ready to move fast and want direct, sustained contact with someone thinking at the level they are working toward.
A note on what RIACT is not
RIACT does not offer ACT certification. This is intentional and consistent with the values of the ACBS community from which this work emerges. What RIACT offers is something arguably more valuable: a structured, supported, community-embedded path toward genuine clinical fluency, the kind that changes how you think in the room, not just what credential appears after your name.
Certificates of completion are available for structured programs. The real credential is the quality of your clinical thinking.
Ready to begin?
If you are not sure where you fit, start with the Foundation membership, it is free, it is real, and it will give you a genuine feel for what RIACT is before you commit to anything.
If you already know you want more, explore the membership tiers and find the level that matches where you are right now. You can upgrade at any time.
And if you have questions, reach out directly. This is not a faceless platform. There are real people here who think carefully about this work and want to support yours.
